Insider Truths: Local Life

😴 The “Siesta” Rule

Between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM, local shops often close. Workers nap. Offices shut down. Do not expect service during this time. Do as the locals do: seek air-conditioning or rest at your hotel.

🎀 The Karaoke Culture

Portable karaoke speakers are popular in residential areas. It can be loud until 10:00 PM. This is part of the culture. If it continues past 10 PM, you can report noise violations to the local police (Cong An phuong).

Common Questions

Do people speak English?

Yes, in tourism zones like My Khe Beach and Hoi An. In local markets, English is limited. We recommend downloading “Google Translate” with the Vietnamese offline pack for smooth communication.

Is public Wi-Fi available?

Yes. Da Nang has city-wide public Wi-Fi (“DanangWifi”), though it can be slow. Almost every coffee shop provides fast, free Wi-Fi. Just ask for the password (“Mat khau”).

Are taxi meters honest?

Mostly yes (Mai Linh, Vinasun). However, to avoid any risk of a rigged meter, we strongly recommend using the Grab App. The price is fixed before you ride.
